Celebrate National Doughnut Day With Some Of Our Favorite Flavors!

Today is National Doughnut Day, and here at Philip Gabriel Photography, we go nuts for doughnuts!!

These delicious treats actually come with a pretty sweet history. During WWI, the Salvation Army began their campaign to boost the morale of soldiers fighting in the war. They sent hundreds of female volunteers, known as the “Donut Lassies,” overseas to bring this sweet treat those serving on the front lines. Not only did this lift the spirits of the soldiers, it helped to popularize the doughnut in the United States!

National Doughnut Day officially started in Chicago on the first Friday in June of 1938. The purpose of the day was to raise awareness for the Salvation Army, and to commemorate the volunteers’ contributions to the war efforts.

Today, we wanted to share this little bite of history, along with some of our favorite flavors! Whether you “Run On Dunkin’ or crave those Fancy Federal recipes, get out and celebrate today!
